Mobilising local communities in depopulating peripheral areas: a study visit to Eastern Poland in the framework of the CASPER project under Interreg Europe.

The last study visit in the exchange phase of the CASPER project took place in the Podlaskie region of Poland from 13 to 15 May 2025. Topic of the conference held on the first day in Bialystok was the presentation of rural development tools and the potential of silver economy, targeting the local elderly population. During the study visit on the second and the third day, the project partners got acquainted with the practices of Drohiczyn (water tourism on the Bug River, an old-timer motorcycle and kayak exhibition created through local cooperation) and Hajnówka (afternoon school for the youth, a university for the elderly, artist community at the building of a former railway station) that rely on the involvement of local communities, as well as the role of the Europe-wide unique Białowieża National Park in the local economy.
